HI guys congratulations on your recent release Copylefted Rightovers through Power Play Records.
Thanks a lot, we’re really thrilled to finally have this album out after the great response we got for our debut release Wise Hedonist and the positive feedback of the metal compilations we ended up on.
Can you tell us how Copylefted Rightovers takes a listener on a journey of relationships, and dealing with life’s everyday issues?
Copylefted Rightovers can be musically considered the natural evolution of our own distinctive sound that’s always been influenced by a lot of diverse genres with a common metal ground. This album wants to reflect and trigger different states of mind with little distinction between who makes the music and who listens to it. Lyrically the album deals mostly with social issues at large and tries to suggest a path for a personal thought.
Who writes the lyrics for KHIGH are they based around experiences the band members have gone through or perhaps their friends have gone through?
I write the lyrics and quite frankly even though there’s often some sort of personal experience behind a new song I tried to write of situations and emotions the listeners can relate to as their own. Basically I see myself more like a “biased beholder” who ignites an individual reflection than someone who desperately wants to say what he thinks to the whole world…

I like the incorporation of different sounds in each songs some are metal hard and heavy and others have a certain kick or catchy vibe in them the vocals, guitars and drums are awesome were there any challenges to laying down the song tracks to the recording for this Album?
Well, the most challenging part of meshing different elements is preserving a consistent sound instantly recognizable as “the very one” of your band. Once you have chosen the sounds of the instruments for the album you have to arrange the songs and that’s definitely the trickiest process. It’s probably the least evident aspect for the casual listener, but the most important production-wise.
Did anyone help with the mixing and mastering of Copylefted Rightovers?
Of course, we were lucky enough to record and mix Copylefted Rightovers with Nik Bavaro who put a lot of dedication and professionalism during the whole studio time. Then the CD was mastered by Ryan Gentry here in L.A.
Will the band be producing any music videos from their song tracks off of Copylefted Rightovers?
That’s in our ballpark and we are in talks to make a video for the song Pretty Baby who got an awesome feedback on internet allowing KHIGH to reach #2 for the metal genre in the L.A. area and #10 globally on Reverbnation.

Do all the band members share the same influences for their music and do they like to experiment and try new things with their sound?
It’s fair to say that there’s a common ground to KHIGH when it comes to hard rock and metal, but each one of us has different influences in multiple genres. Needless to say this is the key to the innovation we all are heavily into.
Has KHIGH been able to tour to promote Copylefted Rightovers?
We are about to make some promotional dates around California and in talks to tour Europe in the next future.
When it comes to music festivals, venues or tours that KHIGH has been on in the past which one stands out in the bands mind as being the most memorable, favorite, or funny and why?
One of the best gigs we did performance-wise was at the Roxy in Hollywood, but the funniest one was definitely in Europe some years ago in this small open air festival held in the north of Italy. Well, don’t let me disclose some inconvenient truths about it… haha
Was the band able to capture some of their live killer performance on video from their last West Coast and European tour?
We have released only a small part of what we’ve caught on tape keeping it for our future official videos. Some material is available on youtube, but we didn’t feel like cluttering the web with videos often barely audible or of questionable quality due to the recording equipment/conditions like many other bands do. We’ve always thought this is not professional and would be a form of disrespect to our fans and followers.
When playing live shows do you have a mix of both Copylefted Rightovers songs and Wise Hedonist songs in your playlist?

Yes the typical KHIGH playlist covers most of Copylefted Rightovers including Modern Time Religion, Inner, Pretty Baby, Supremacy of Rock, Free Freed Freedom and so forth along with our former material namely Too Late, Change, Lovesong, Wise Hedonist and more…
What is the music scene like in the LA area, are there plenty places to play and is your music popular?
The heavy metal and rock scene in L.A. is still pretty active and exuberant, but the pay-for-play formula that’s become the rule for many clubs here is kinda killing the abundance of talent present in the city. Needless to say that many booking agents here don’t do much to promote their artists leaving this demanding chore to the bands.
Whats the bands focus for the remainder of 2009 what do they want to accomplish is the emphasis on touring or is the band writing new material for another Album?
Actually the main focus of KHIGH for this year is to tour in support of Copylefted Rightovers as much as we can, but some more songs are on the way and shortly we might be releasing some preview material, so check our website http://www.khigh.com/, MySpace page: www.myspace.com/krisempire and Twitter account: www.twitter.com/krisempire frequently to stay up-to-date as they say…
Before we wrap up our interview does KHIGH have any shout outs to fans and friends?
You can stream the whole Copylefted Rightovers on last.fm at: http://www.last.fm/music/Khigh/Copylefted+Rightovers and that was a conscious choice we made to give a chance to everybody to listen to our music. If you like what you hear consider buying a copy of the whole CD, in our opinion downloading one or two random songs of an album deprives the entire work of part of its original meaning. Every bit of a record matters and when you see KHIGH play next to your town don’t hesitate to come see us, you might seriously like what you see and hear. ;-)
I want to thank KIGH and Power Play Records for this interview. Horns High, You Rock HMTV Canada
Thank you at HMTV Canada for the opportunity to spread the word and music of KHIGH and kudos to your fellow readers for their time and interest in our band. See you on the road.
