HMTV DJ Tina Interviews Shameful Behaviour

www.shamefulbehaviour.com

HMTV DJ Tina: Hi Shameful Behaviour Hi how are things?

Hi Tina, things are good thanks, especially as we are talking to you ;-)

HMTV DJ Tina: Tell me have you started The Global Warming My Ass Campaign Yet the interesting topic I read in your blog on your myspace page?

$lick: Well this one is all me really. I am just a little fed up with governments being big fat hypocrites on the whole “environment” issue. It really seems to be just a means to justify another way to tax us more. If they really cared they would stop the cutting down of the rain forests for a starter…And look at the weather! I think I will end this topic with this…a change of planetary orbit???? And when did CO change to CO2??

HMTV DJ Tina: What year was Shameful Behaviour Born?

We were not born so much as haemorraged really, but the year was 2005. A great day for the real Rock n Roll revival.

HMTV DJ Tina: How long has each member known each other?

Both myself and Slick have known each other for about 3 years now, and Red has been in the frame for about a year.

HMTV DJ Tina: Can you tell our fans who the current line up of members are and their roles in Shameful Behaviour?

$lick Valentine – guitar and lead vocals, manager, booking agent, tea boy ;-) etc…

Red The Rascal – bass and backing vox and lighting consultant

Rocco Savage – Drums, chief whip and security I only use the whip at weekends but that’s my other job!!!

We also have a cool crew in young Jamie on lighting and Gazza on sound and pyro duties.

HMTV DJ Tina: Can you tell us about your latest CD’s Warts N All Live and Get Shameful?

It’s a good mix of Slicks own brand of material plus the odd cover that suits our style rather than the usual rubbish that the local covers bands are playing. Left that behind years ago.

HMTV DJ Tina: Who does the cover art for your CD’s?

I have to confess it is I, $lick, who is guilty of that!

HMTV DJ Tina: How does Warts N All Live differ from Get Shameful?

Errrr, well it’s entirely live, no overdubs guaranteed! It has 7 more tracks on it (12 in all) including a couple of covers. And it costs more LOL ;-)

HMTV DJ Tina: What are the inspirations, messages and challenges in producing both, Shameful Behaviour’s CD’s?

The real challenge is the paperwork for having a properly licenced product. $lick set up his own record label “Shameful Records” purely as a vehicle to release our music with necessary industry ISRC codes for the tracks, UPC barcodes for the CD’s and to establish an industry prescence, and of course the licence to manufacture the CD’s, particularly Warts, as there are a couple of covers on there…One’s a Kiss song and they can afford better lawyers than we can ;-) Making the music is the fun part! Messages… well get your rocks off!!

HMTV DJ Tina: Has Shameful Behaviour given any thought to producing their CD’s on vinyl?

We all come from the vinyl era so we have all had the aspiration of having our performance on vinyl, but it’s not really worth it these days. I ($lick) have a huge collection of classic rock on vinyl from the 60’s to about 1990.

I (Rocco) transferred all my vinyl to a format that could be played in the car. The needle kept slipping when I had the turntable in there.

HMTV DJ Tina: What does Slick Valentine express in his lyrics?

Well you must have had a listen to a few to ask this one. Truthfully it can be anything…Memories of ex girlfriends, a bad mood, a political opinion, last nights groupie ;-) (He wished!!!) or just what seems to be a cool idea to write a song about. Don’t forget the recent track that has been written about one of our favorite venues. Yeah a venue called the Courthouse has inspired my latest offering.

HMTV DJ Tina: How about putting the sound quality and melody to your lyrical content do all the band members help out?

Slick comes up with all guitar melody lines but when it comes to the way the song fits together then we all seem to have an input. It gels really well.

HMTV DJ Tina: What’s a typical day like in the recording studio for Shameful Behaviour?

There is no such thing as a typical day…Each day brings something new…you never know who’s going to pull a prank next or bring down the house with a monumental balls-up ;-). But we spend more time playing live. We like to get the drums down at a live performance, which is a little unorthadox but has worked for us so far…but then we don’t have a hot producer working for us yet…………any offers gladly received.

HMTV DJ Tina: What are the bands criteria for a well mixed or engineered song?

I (Rocco) like a live feel to a song. One that has not been overproduced so the way we are dealing with our recordings at the moment suits me just fine. Absolutely!

HMTV DJ Tina: Can you describe Shameful Behaviour’s attitude?

Honest. By that I mean good honest down to earth Rock n Roll for the masses

HMTV DJ Tina: How does the band plan to spread rock back to the masses in their mission?

One convert at a time (Unless we get a bigger audience)

HMTV DJ Tina: What are your live performances like?

Well this is easy really…a value packed source of entertainment. Lights, effects, good tunes with melody, costumes and more make up and higher heels than a cheap hooker for now at least. $lick has just built himself a proper smoking guitar like Ace Freheley’s famous smoker. He also shoots/fires pyro from his guitars. You can’t really argue with the Kiss model so why mess with it.

Its all about fun. We enjoy what we do and that reflects in our live performance. It doesn’t matter how many are in the audience we play to the best of our ability. After all they are there for us and deserve to get the best don’t you think? The audience are the bosses to quote Mr Simmons…

HMTV DJ Tina: Does Shameful Behaviour wear their entire make up, high heels and costume gear to all their live shows?

Back in September 07 we decided we’d take the make up off ($lick and Red) But it seems that the ladies like a man in make up and platforms so on it goes again, for me ($lick) for a few more shows at least!

Doesn’t look right on me though does it. I look like Marcel Marceau so for me that’s a no no ;-)

The bottom line is we are looking for the right image for us now, because people think we are just a Kiss tribute act, which we are not even close to being…

HMTV DJ Tina: Any tours planned or upcoming gigs to promote both Warts N All Live and Get Shameful?

We are currently giving the UK market as much of a hammering as we can. A full tour costs money and we’re in business to make money you know? We don’t currently have the financial backing needed or the fan-base really to do anything bigger. We are currently negotiating for some European dates though!

HMTV DJ Tina: Does Shameful Behaviour have any video production planned for 2008?

We are impoverished musician’s you know, but, we are looking for someone to video a show on 23rd May for us. We shot a full concert last year, but that got screwed up in the editing and we abandoned it. There are a couple of samples on YouTube featuring our old bassist Rik Raven…and a pre-view of $lick’s smoker!

HMTV DJ Tina: What does the band look for in a record label?

A moot point these days…The industry is struggling to get to grips with the 21st Century. But a label really needs to be into the act, have necessary modern distribution and be able to get the necessary publicity to really get an artist off of the ground

HMTV DJ Tina: Can the fans request Shameful Behaviour music on any internet or main stream radio stations?

There are some really cool internet DJ’s out there right now, but I know we get played a lot in the US and Canada by Malice Cooper on

wflmradio.com

k94rocks.com

nvasionradio.com

garageradio.com

cygnusradio.com

jflradio.com

and on possibly a few more stations. We have mailed promos to several other US stations, but you never know if they play you unless they tell you…Our publisher would love to know though so he can collect the royalties ;-)

We have also had play on UK cable radio Milton Keynes, Market Harborough 102.3 FM and several other UK and European based internet stations, but the BBC seem scared for some reason?

HMTV DJ Tina: What has been Shameful Behaviour’s most significant accomplishment when it comes to producing their music?

Actually getting it onto CD I think. That, and keeping the sound as live as possible.

HMTV DJ Tina: Where can the fans access Shameful Behaviour merchandise and CD”s?

You need to get your collective cyberspace butts over to www.shamefulbehaviour.com and check out the merchandise page where you can buy tons of cool stuff using paypal for secure shopping.

HMTV DJ Tina: What does the band think of the music industry today and what would they like to see change?

Get rid of Simon Cowell LOL! Here in the UK though there is way too much emphasis on the pop and dance genres and closed-minded opinions as what is cool. I mean there are some really awful bands getting away with murder and they get record deals and slots at Glastonbury etc…There has to be a place for us, just look at the current demand for bands like Led Zep and the other old established bands.

HMTV DJ Tina: Before we wrap up our interview does the band have any shout outs or last words.

Rock music is about having a laugh and not taking yourself too seriously. The music is the most important part. Enjoy. Particularly enjoy us! Keep It Shameful!!!!!!!!!

HMTV DJ Tina: Thank you Shameful Behaviour for allowing our eZine to interview your band.

Thank you, you are very welcome…No green room though is the downside of this method LOL ;-)

HMTV DJ Tina: And big thank you for the Promo CD’s and Photos your music is awesome. Hope to see you on tour in Canada someday?

Thank you very much and thanks to the HMTV team for their hard work promoting all the little guys and girls.

Cheers guys and girls and a big thanks from Rocco.
