HMTV Canada Tina : 3. Just wanted to say thank you for the CD having listened to your new 3 song pre release I noticed that your music format has changed since The World Black and Faded Jr. What helped develope this new polished music format in Willie Stenner Music?
William Stenner: Actually I have always written those types of hooks. It's what I did on my down time but since everything is so "Image" oriented I would keep my mainstream sounding songs to myself. I just thought, "Why should I have anything to hide? Who am I to Impress?" "I enjoy what I do so why not give it my all." and thats what I did. I made up my mind to be plain ol' William Stenner.
HMTV Canada Tina : 4. Will you continue to play with Faded Jr?
William Stenner: I don't think so but you never know. Sometimes old projects resurface. Like Ritual for instance. Larry is trying to get Ritual back up and running. Vic and I are meeting with Larry at his house for a sort of reminiscent game plan.
HMTV Canada Tina : 5. Is there any plans in the works for another World Black EP in the future if so will there be any cover songs included?
William Stenner:Vic (VM Underground) and I have been talking about it. We have a track laid down that we recorded about 2 months ago but it is sleeping right now. We are thinking of covering Confortably Numb and Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. It might be some time though.
HMTV Canada Tina : 6. Willie what is your opinion of the music industry today?
William Stenner: It has Changed big time. I am not behind the scenes to know what the big industry is up to but with a computer and a program at your fingertips anyone can have a decent album up for sale in no time. There are so many great artists out there and as I can see the music is getting out and heard. Now getting paid is another story...
HMTV Canada Tina : 7. I understand that you self produce all your music and write your songs, what are your main influences now in William Stenner Music?
William Stenner: Yes I do except for my EP, We Are Incomplete (3 Song Pre-Release) Enjoy! That was actually produced by Marty Rifkin. My main influences are my surroundings. (You Probably thought I was going to mention bands) I am finding that the language of music is in all genres. I listen to all kinds of different types. I would say a good majority of the time you can hear the same foundation of chords that are played in a country song is also the knitting that holds together a hardcore screamo death galore song. The sounds change with Tempo, Tuning, distortion or clean. So whether your playing death metal or country there is still (E A D B G E) that makes the music.
HMTV Canada Tina : 8. What is your new recording environment like? Do you plan to stay independant or are you seeking a record label?
William Stenner: Im not sure. I always say that I don't care about being rich or famous but someone once said, "You may say that you don't care about being rich or famous but you know that deep in the back of your mind that is what you hope for." I can't disagree. As far as record labels. I would only take a deal with a company that guarantees I could make at least 120,000 a year. The reason is, I make approximately $60,000 to 65,000 a year now and can barely keep up with my bills. I would like to save and put my kids in college and retire nicely.
HMTV Canada Tina : 9. Can you tell us about your latest CD release, anything from messages to inspirations to challenges in the recording process in 2007?
William Stenner: My Cd release write now is just a 3 song EP "We Are Incomplete (3 Song Pre-Release) Enjoy!. I am working on a full length but finances are slowing me down. I would say that is my biggest challenge. Another challenge I faced is how to get my name out there and my music heard. When No-one knows who I am that makes it really difficult. I have given away so much free stuff to get word of mouth spreading (which is working by the way) but it's leaving me empty handed. As far as inspirations. Life in general has inspired alot of my songs. From all inspiring to depressing to substance abuse to love to death and so on.
HMTV Canada Tina : 10. Are you a member of any music organizations, win any honouraries or awards for William Stenner Music?
William Stenner:I am a member of ASCAP. CD Baby has done a great job for me also. I was nominated for Best Internantional Rock Song by Toronto Exclusive Magazine. I didn't win but it was cool to be nominated. It was for my Song "Your Eye's"
HMTV Canada Tina : 11. Willie what is your main goal and hopes for the future when it comes to selling your CD? Are you doing something different in the music scene that you want people to be aware of?
William Stenner: I hope that people would take enough interest in my music so I could work on it full time. It's what I love to do. All I know is that people like my music and that matters most. Its an awesome feeling to be able to share your art with people. I get people that come up to me and say, "Man that first song on your CD really hit home with me." I get the same response on all of the songs, It just depends on the persons taste. I don't know if I am doing anything different. In fact I don't even know much of what Im doing but its working appearanlty. All I know is I ask questions and lots of them. ASCAP is big help with the answers but don't always provide the answers Im looking for.
HMTV Canada Tina : 12. What do you think of the internet today as a means of marketing your music and building your fan base?
William Stenner: It is such a great tool. I mean millions of potententail fans at your fingertips. I wish I had this advantage 20 years ago.
HMTV Canada Tina : 13. Have you played any live shows or have any upcomming shows?
William Stenner: I have played 2 so far at a venue called Java With Javelyn and I really enjoyed those gigs. I'll call them gigs because they are 15 minute sets. I have a show coming up at C&D Cafe in Redondo Beach, Ca December 15th. I go on at 8:15 and play a 45 minute set. I can't wait for that one.
HMTV Canada Tina : 14. What advice do you have for young musicians breaking into the music industry in California?
William Stenner: Have fun with it. When it starts feeling like a job and your not getting paid and your getting frustrated then your losing the art of it. Music is a universal language and if you have the talent to make it happen, Enjoy it! It's a wonderful thing to have.
HMTV Canada Tina : 15. Is there anyone special you would like to acknowledge or any last words.
William Stenner:You know what? I really want to name names but the list would go on and on. To all my family friends and supporters. With all of my heart I urge you to ....Buy My MUSIC! I can't make a full length without you. You never know My next song just might be about you.
